PharmAccess

December 12, 2023

Digital technology remains a game-changer for driving health systems transformation to accelerate Universal Healthcare. At PharmAccess, we leverage digital innovations to expand health coverage and deliver better value for the benefits of people in sub-Saharan. Utilizing mobile technology can lead to increased mobilization of funds for health, the efficient utilization of existing funds (critical during economic crises), improved transparency, better health outcomes, and enhanced decision-making. By placing the individual at the center of care, we can unlock invaluable data that informs us about the patient’s specific conditions and the quality of care available. This data-driven approach can enable us to deliver better and more affordable healthcare solutions, covering a greater number of people. We have offices in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, and Amsterdam.

In addition to a post on the PharmAccess LinkedIn page on UHC Day (on Dec 12), where we will highlight some recent UHC policy developments and work we are doing on UHC, we are involved in multiple events throughout some of our focus countries:

• Ghana: There will be an in-person National NCD Symposium scheduled for December 6th, where PharmAccess is partnering with the Ghana NCD Alliance and will host a panel session on digital tools for UHC in the NCD context. It will focus on key innovations, such as the “NCD Care” remote monitoring app in Ghana aimed at helping to manage NCD more (cost)-effectively and reach the underserved.

• Kenya: The country head of PharmAccess Kenya, Dr. Wasunna Owino, was invited to speak at an online panel session broadcasted in NY at the GDHF (Dec 4-6). Panel “enhancing local capacities to support the attainment of Kenya’s UHC Vision.” A video of the panel is available online. This was part of #GDHF2023, and the local hosts of the sessions were HELINA and KeHIA. The conference was sponsored by The World Bank and Medic Mobile, and coordinated by TechChange.

• Tanzania: An in-person (hybrid) CPD-accredited national research symposium centered around (financing for) UHC took place on December 5th, jointly organized by PharmAccess and MUHAS. A lot of local press/media has covered this event – these news items are publicly available. PharmAccess will publish a news article related to this event on our website to share some research findings for evidence-based policymaking towards UHC. The event sought to bring researchers and policy makers together, so they could collaboratively shape policy (towards UHC) in an informed manner. The importance of independent research is highlighted to continuously innovate and improve health systems.
