People’s Health Movement Tanzania (PHM Tanzania)
Regardless of the health workforce crisis globally, we have witnessed how the COVID-19 Pandemic outbreak has hit our health workers and probably increasing the crisis. But because reports show that Community Health Workers (CHWs) who are properly trained, equipped and supported can take on a range of tasks that otherwise depend on mid-level health workers. We have found that CHWs extend care to underserved communities especially women and children, where they enhance access to health services and promote trust, demand and use of such services, PHM Tanzania looks forward to organizing a march for UHC Day through Dar es Salaam City on 12th December 2020 that will bring together about 1000 people from local politicians, community leaders, community health workers, NGO representatives and Tanzanian citizens. We aim to increase public awareness of the UN political declaration on the UHC, lobby the Tanzanian Ministry of Health, Ministry of Finance, and other ministries, as well as NGO partners, the private sector, and communities to immediately take action to make use of Community Health Workers as an alternative step toward implementing affordable and improved healthcare for all. We hope to use the growing momentum around UHC to pressure the government into taking substantial steps toward improving Community Health that will protect everyone in Tanzania.
